Rx J0744{52: a Probable New Intermediate Polar
We present optical and X-ray data of the Cataclysmic Variable RX0744{52 discovered using ROSAT by Motch et al. High resolution spectroscopy centred on the H line indicates a probable orbital period of 3.60 hrs. From its distance (obtained using polarimetry), its X-ray luminosity, its X-ray colour and its X-ray/UV+Opt ratio, we suggest that RX0744{52 is an new Intermediate Polar. The absence of ...
متن کاملRX J 1039 . 7 - 0507 : A New Intermediate Polar and Probable Recent Nova , possessing a large Reflection Effect
The ROSAT source RXJ1039.7-0507, known from its optical spectrum to be a Cataclysmic Variable star, is shown from high speed photometry to have an orbital period of 1.574 h. The system has a nearly sinusoidal photometric modulation with a range of 1.1 mag which we interpret as the reflection effect caused by a very hot white dwarf primary. This suggests that a nova explosion occured on the prim...
متن کاملThe periods of the intermediate polar RX J0153.3+7446
We present the first optical photometry of the counterpart to the candidate intermediate polar RX J0153.3+7446. This reveals an optical pulse period of 2333± 5 s. Reanalysis of the previously published ROSAT X-ray data reveals that the true X-ray pulse period is probably 1974± 30 s, rather than the 1414 s previously reported. Given that the previously noted orbital period of the system is 3.94 ...
متن کاملRX J 2133 . 7 + 5107 : Identification of a new long period Intermediate Polar ⋆ ⋆ ⋆
We report the first time-resolved photometric and spectroscopic optical observations of the X-ray source RX J2133.7+5107, identified in the ROSAT survey. A clear persistent optical light pulsation is discovered with fast photometry at a period of P ω =(570.823±0.013) s which we associate with the spin period of an accreting white dwarf. Radial velocity curves of the strong emission lines show m...
متن کاملLeonis a superoutbursting intermediate polar ?
We present an XMM-Newton analysis of the cataclysmic variable T Leo. The X-ray light curve shows sinusoidal variation on a period Px equal to 0.89+0.14 −0.10 times the previously spectroscopically determined orbital period. Furthermore, we find a signal in the power spectrum at 414 sec that could be attributed to the spin period of the white dwarf. If true, T Leo would be the first confirmed su...
